Install Robinhood on Desktop
What is robinhood?
Robinhood is a mobile trading platform available on iOS and Android devices. Its appeal is commission-free trades. Larger brokerages have lowered their rates to $4.95 - $6.95 per a trade but new traders using a small account, commissions can quickly eat into potential profits. It can fundamentally change the way you trade. For example, instead of exiting at what you think is the top, you might be tempted to hold until you are in the green including commissions. What happens next is something I'm sure all traders have experienced at least once: your position turns red and now you regret not exiting. For this reason, Robinhood is on our recommended brokers list.
If robinhood is so good, why do I need a desktop version?
A key part of success is to buy stocks that are moving or about to move. It stands to reason that keeping track of different tickers is an important part of this process. On a mobile only platform, that can be especially difficult to do flipping between screens. It is a strain on your mental processes to remember each chart while also waiting on screen changes. A few seconds can mean the difference between profit and loss! It is this reason that most traders use Robinhood to execute orders while using another free platform such as ThinkorSwim (reviewed here) to keep track of price action.
Ok I'm convinced, where do I start?
What we want to do is download a lightweight Android emulator such as Nox App Player that supports both Windows and OSX. Our screenshots will show the Windows version but the Mac version should not be too different.
